Cooking for One

Hi. I’m Susie. AKA Christian Wife Material

Let’s talk about something real for a moment: cooking for one.

It’s not glamorous. It’s not what I pictured growing up. I didn’t dream of standing in a kitchen making a single serving of pasta or staring into a fridge trying to figure out if I should bother making something at all. And yet, here we are.

There was a time I thought by now I’d be cooking for a husband. Or a family. Or at least someone other than just me. I thought my life would look more like a shared dinner table and less like leftovers in Tupperware… or as I have recently started doing, freezer storage.

But what I’m learning—slowly, and often with a side of overcooked rice—is that cooking for one doesn’t have to feel like a consolation prize.

Sometimes, it’s sacred.

It’s lighting a candle and plating your food instead of eating out of the pot. It’s saying, “I am worth the effort.” It’s feeding your body because you love it, not because you have to keep it running. It’s letting the kitchen be a place of worship, even if no one else sees it.

There are still nights when I make toast and call it a day. There are still moments when I feel the sting of loneliness more than the joy of solitude. But even then, I believe God is near. That He sees me. That He smiles when I take the time to nourish the life He gave me.

So if you find yourself cooking for one, know this: You are not less than. You are not behind. You are not forgotten.

You are invited to the table, just as you are.

And that’s more than enough.

With love and a side of something warm,

Susie
